ANIMAL MAGNETISM: Bats use a magnetic substance in their body called magnetite as an ‘internal compass’ to help them navigate. The researchers monitored movements in bats by using radio transmitters. But such monitoring is limited to short distances only. Magnetite is found in the cells of many birds and mammals, including humans, but humans appear to have lost its use long ago.
SIT UP: Sedentary people who complain of fatigue can increase their energy levels by 20 per cent and decrease fatigue by 65 per cent by doing regular, low intensity exercise, says a study. About 25 per cent of the population experiences such fatigue and there is a scientific basis in exercising. There are advantages to exercise, compared to use of caffeine and energy drinks, the researchers say.
