Two of the most important greenhouse gases, co₂ and n₂o, in the atmosphere reached a record high in 2006, said the World Meteorological Organization on November 24.

While the average concentration of co₂ has reached at 381.2 parts per million (ppm) compared to 379.2 ppm in 2005, that of n₂o reached at 320.1 parts per billion (ppb) from 319.2 ppb the previous year.

Methane, the third of the three important greenhouse gases, however remained stable between 2005 and 2006, said the un body. The agency said that the pollutants will continue to increase for another few years.
