Talking to The Sentinel, Das said, “The dam in Kurisu river in Bhutan constructed for power production is a threat to Lower Assam, especially the districts of Baksa, Barpeta and Chirang. Water released from the dam gushes down the plains of Assam and causes floods in Lower Assam. Every year lives are lost and thousands of hectares of arable land  destoyed. Soil erosion has also emerged as a major problem in these areas. Hence the Assam Government should mount pressure on the Centre to hold talks with the Bhutan government in this regard. Also, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi should bring up this issue when he visits Bhutan.”
