The European Commission's decision to include non-eu airlines in its emissions trading scheme has been deferred for now. Earlier, in a bid to curb its greenhouse gas emissions, European regulators had proposed that all airlines that land and take off in the eu will have to pay for their emissions.

Under the plan, flights within the eu were to be subject to the bloc's emissions trading scheme from 2011, while international flights arriving at or departing from the eu airports were to sign up for the scheme in 2012. The plan, however, had angered the us and Asian countries. The ec, thus, put a new scheme in place.
