UNESCO has suggested nominating the 39 serial sites of the Western Ghats for the World Heritage List under properties of evolutionary importance besides the earlier nominations in two categories.

The latest nomination comes in category nine of the Operational Guidelines (OG) of the World Heritage Convention for the protection of the world cultural and natural heritage of UNESCO.
