Order of the Supreme Court of India in the matter of In Re: T. N. Godavarman Thirumulpad Vs Union of India & Others dated 23/04/2018 This is an application filed by M/s. Puntambekar Minerals for the purpose of mining bauxite near the Radhanagri sanctuary. The Court notes that the matter has been pending for a long time before being taken up by the Standing Committee of the National Board of Wildlife. NBW had asked the Government of Maharashtra to initiate action against mining units which are operating without obtaining approval from the National Board of Wildlife. It has also come to notice of the Apex Court that the State of Maharashtra has taken no action to stop illegal mining by other miners. Notice issued to the counsel for the State of Maharashtra in this matter.
