The Minister of Water and Environmental Affairs has published national norms and standards for the assessment of waste for landfill disposal under section 7(1)(c) of the National Environmental Management: Waste Act 59 of 2008. The National Norms and Standards for the Assessment of Waste for Landfill Disposal prescribes the manner in which waste must be assessed for the purposes of disposal to landfill with reference to total concentration ("TC") analysis and leachable concentration ("LC") analysis and allowable TC threshold limits and LC threshold limits.
