Participatory training in canal irrigation in Andhra Pradesh: the Jala Spandana experience

The need for farmers to participate in irrigation management is recognized worldwide, as is the need to protect limited water resources. One method to do so is to make the water
user/irrigator responsible through an institutional structure in which farmers participate in governance, management and finance of irrigation, as has been adopted in parts of India. This report describes a Participatory Training Program of various stakeholders undertaken by JalaSpandana, a non governmental organization in Andhra Pradesh with the objectives to strengthen Participatory Irrigation Management, sustain Water Users
