A key environmental panel has recommended clearance for the proposed Rs. 23,502-crore nuclear power plant in Fatehabad district of Haryana. Environment Minister Veerappa Moily, who took charge recently, will now have to take the final decision on whether to permit the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd. (NPCIL) to go ahead with setting up a 2800 MW nuclear power plant some 200 km away from Delhi.

The Expert Appraisal Committee on Environmental Appraisal of Nuclear Power Projects, which cleared the NPCIL proposal for setting up a nuclear power park, known as Gorakhpur Haryana Anu Vidyut Pariyojna (4x700 MWe), in Fatehabad's Gorakhpur village, has also suggested several additional environmental safeguards, according to officials
