The government may extend bid date for the allocation of projects through the second round of bidding under the first phase of the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission (JNNSM) to give more time to interested bidders to finalise their offers.

New Delhi Open access power consumers may soon have to shell out more to foot their electricity bills, with regulators agreeing to impose mandatory renewable purchase obligations on them. As of now, only power distribution licensees are required to buy renewable power in compliance with the target set under the National Action Plan on Climate Change (NAPCC).

The government plans to provide this exemption to 1,000 mw capacity addition envisaged in the first phase of the Jawharlal Nehru National Solar Mission (JNNSM), which is expected to be completed by 2013. These benefits will be applicable to the solar power plants for their entire 25 year life, a senior government official said.
