In India, the quality and safety of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems—and their installation—have become a concern for investors, regulators, consumers, and distribution companies (discoms).

The western state of Gujarat currently has the largest amount of solar capacity of any Indian state, with over 855 megawatts direct current (MWDC) among plants above 1 MWDC in size. Combined with over 3,240 megawatts (MW) of wind, variable generation renewables comprise nearly 18% of the electric-generating capacity in the state.
