AIZAWL, Nov 3: Serlui river, the main source of water in the State capital, has been found to be poisoned by unidentified miscreants, disrupting water supply to many localities in the city today.

In a relief for locals living under the threat of swine flu, all the 40 throat swab samples suspected of swine-flu infection were found to be negative today, health department officials said.

Swine flu scare, triggered by the detection of two cases in the State on Saturday, hit normal lives in the capital city of Aizawl with many people wearing masks on the streets since Monday.

Mizoram today stepped up vigil along the border after some persons infected with swine flu were detected in neighbouring Manipur, officials said.

Check posts in Mizoram-Manipur border village and other areas were on high alert and ban on import of pigs had been clamped, State Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Director Dr C Sangnghina said.

The Mizoram Government has said efforts are on to make Lengpui the first smoke-free airport in the country.

Taking into account the scarce water resources in the state, the Public Health Engineering department of Mizoram has embarked on a mission to raise awareness among the public regarding Rainwater Harvesting (RWH) system in the hilly terrain. The Aizawl Development Authority Building Regulations, 2008, which came into force from May 2, has made RWH mandatory for every newly constructed house in Aizawl. The RWH system has been practised effectively in rural Mizoram for the last two decades.
