Global steel major ArcelorMittal, which has lined up Rs 1 lakh crore investments for India, said today it is in the race for a chunk of the mineral-rich Chiria mines in Jharkhand.

THE government is exploring the option of creating a fund through contribution from steel companies, the annuity from which would help meet the livelihood requirement of those affected by projects. The government hopes that through this measure it would be able to acquire land more easily for steel projects while giving a more humane face to industrialisation.

BHUBANESWAR: Minister for Steel and Mines Raghunath Mohanty reiterated that ArcelorMittal has assured the State Government that the company will establish the proposed steel plant in Keonjhar district.

New Delhi: ArcelorMittal said on Wednesday that options are open before it on shifting its Rs 1 lakh-crore steel projects from proposed sites in Orissa and Jharkhand.

ARCELORMITTAL on Wednesday said it is in talks with the Orissa and Jharkhand governments for alternative sites for its Rs 1 lakh crore steel projects which have remained stuck, mainly due to problems in acquiring land.

At the advice of the Centre, the Orissa government is convening a meeting this week with Posco and ArcelorMittal to resolve issues like land acquisition and mining leases which are blocking Rs 1 lakh crore investment plans by the two global steel giants in the state.

TATA Steel is likely to begin work on its delayed steel project in Chhattisgarh by the end of the current year. The Rs 19,500-crore project for construction of an integrated steel facility of 5.5 million tonne capacity has crossed a major milestone with majority of project affected people coming in support of the plant.
