The government has threatened to cancel the coal block alloted jointly to ArcelorMittal and GVK Power in Jharkhand for the inordinate delay in developing the property.

The coal ministry served notices on September 23 to both the companies and sought their replies within 15 days, seeking reasons for the delay in developing the mines allotted for captive use.

Faced with resistance over land acquisition for its proposed projects in Torpa-Kamdara, steel behemoth ArcelorMittal is exploring possibilities outside Khunti district.

Ranchi/ Jamshedpur: The steel giant ArcelorMittal is all set to do what the Tatas did in Singur. Sources said the company was considering shifting its proposed Rs 40,000 crore greenfield integrated steel plant project from Torpa in Khunti district to another location within the state following stiff resistance by anti-displacement groups.
