Residents of Bihpuria in Lakhimpur district have decided to take the North Eastern Electric Power Corporation (NEEPCO) authorities to the court. A public meeting, organised by the voluntary organisation Dikrong Upatyaka Suraksha Samiti (DUSS), took the decision yesterday resenting the alleged attempts made by the Central Sector power company to hoodwink the people on release of excess water from the dams of its power projects. The meeting was held at the Bihpuria Girls' High School under the presidentship of Golok Hazarika.
A US appeals court on Wednesday threw out a Washington state law barring the federal government from adding radioactive waste to the Hanford nuclear disposal site until existing contamination is cleaned up. The Ninth US Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that federal law pre-empts the state from halting waste disposal at the Hanford Nuclear Reservation, a 586-square-mile (1,520-square-km) site along the Columbia River in south-eastern Washington. It provided plutonium for World War Two atomic bombs and for the US Cold War arsenal.

ranbaxy in norway: The Norwegian Appeals Court ruled that Ranbaxy Laboratories Ltd's generic version of Lipitor did not infringe Pfizer Inc's patents. Ranbaxy says they will now be able to market their products in Norway. Pfizer markets its cholesterol-lowering drug Atorvastatin as Lipitor.
