With the CM putting pressure to ensure that the 1,500 MW power plant at Bawana is completed in time for the 2010 Commonwealth Games, Power Minister A K Walia has indicated that the plant may soon be granted "mega project status' by the Union Ministry of Power. "There are certain terms and conditions to be met before a power plant can be granted mega project status. We are in discussion with various stakeholders to ensure that these pre-conditions are met,' he said.

Delhi Cabinet has given its nod to Pragati Phase-III Bawana Power Project to be commissioned at an estimated cost of Rs 5195.81 crore. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had laid the foundation stone of the 1500 MW Gas Based Power Station on March 24 this year. The project would meet the growing demand of power in the city and cater to the requirements for Commonwealth Games 2010. The decision was taken on Monday in a Cabinet meeting presided over by chief minister Sheila Dikshit.

With creating awareness of environment among people, the Delhi Chief Minister, Mrs Sheila Dikshit, today exhorted them to come forward to preserve and conserve environment of the earth planet. She further exhorted them to make rational use of natural resources to ensure better future. She said that her government would introduce water-harvesting scheme in 205 schools in the Capital for which an amount of Rs 40 crore has been earmarked.
