Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Doctors For You Vs MoEF&CC & Others dated 09/09/2020.

The application was filed on September 23, 2015 with a prayer to direct regulation of disposal of cigarette and bidi butts, apart from prohibiting consumption of tobacco in public places. Notice was issued on September 28, 2015 to the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change (MoEF&CC), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Tobacco Board and other respondents. 

Question raised in Rajya Sabha on shortage of doctors in rural areas, 03/03/2020. Public Health being a State Subject, all the administrative and personnel matters, including that of recruitment of specialist doctors in public health facilities lie with the respective State Governments. The shortage of health human resource in public health facilities varies from State to State depending upon their policies and context.

Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Doctors For You Vs. Union of India & Ors. dated 27/04/2016 regarding disposal of Cigarette and Bidi butts and pollution caused by the tobacco. Tribunal allows the Application.

Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Doctors For You Vs. MoEF & CC & Ors. dated 02/11/2015 regarding consumption of tobacco in public places and their disposal.

NGT directs that Respondents while filing their Replies would unambiguously state their stand in regard to generation of hazardous cigarette and bidi buts, adverse impacts on forest area, adverse impacts of tobacco spitting on the environment and ecology, impacts of plastic packaging of cigarette on the environment and ecology and generation of municipal solid wastes.
