Different coal mining operations namely, drilling, blasting and material handling contribute to dust generation and water pollution. Transportation of coal by uncovered trucks, also adds to dust generation along roads.

The ambient air quality data for million plus cities during 2015-2017 is at Annexure.

CPCB has identified 102 non-attainment cities, violating National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS), based on an analysis of ambient air quality data of the period 2011 – 2015 and WHO report 2014/2018. The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) in association with the State Pollution Control Boards (SPCBs)/Pollution Control Committees (PCCs) monitors the water quality of rivers across the country through a network of monitoring stations under the National Water Quality Monitoring Programme.
