This report evaluates the 102 city-specific clean air plans in India approved under the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP). Based on an extensive review of global literature on clean air planning, this report identifies key components of a clean air plan.

As per data from Central Bureau of Health Intelligence (CBHI), State / Union Territory (UT) wise details of cases of Acute Respiratory Infection (ARI),in the country during the years 2016-2018 are given in Annexure. In January 2019, Government launched National Clean Air Programme (NCAP) to tackle the problem of air pollution in a comprehensive manner with targets to achieve 20 to 30 %reduction in PM10 and PM2.5 concentrations by 2024, keeping 2017 as base year.

Earlier this year, India launched the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP) with a tentative national level target of 20%-30% reduction of PM2.5 and PM10 concentration in 102 Indian cities by 2024.

NCAP is a pan India medium term five-year national level strategy to tackle the increasing air pollution problem across the country. At present, 779 manual and 170 real time air quality monitoring stations are installed across the country. State wise list of manual and continuous stations installed in the country is enclosed as Annexure I and Annexure II respectively.
