A wild leopard believed to have accompanied goat herds from neighbouring Rajasthan was shot dead by policemen after it attacked and injured over a dozen village residents outside Mandokhera near Jind City on Thursday.

Haryana verdict a welcome deterrent

Its good news for the farmers of Haryana, who have to bear burgeoning losses, amounting up to Rs 55,000 crore per year, due to lack of proper post harvest management system in the state. The Haryana State Agricultural Marketing Board (HSAMB) has planned to develop collection centres, commodity hubs and terminal Markets across the state to reduce these losses and increase the price realisation for the farmers.

Fifteen birds, including 13 peacocks and peahens, were found dead in the fields of Khunga village of the district here this morning.

Jind: The state government has announced a subsidy of 25 per cent on purchase of solar water heaters besides a relief in power bills to popularise the concept of solar power in both urban and rural areas.

An earthquake measuring 3.5 on the Richter scale hit some parts of the district this noon. However, no loss of life or property was reported. This is the first earthquake since the past one year. "Several residents rushed out of their houses at around 1.13 pm, when the quake was felt, claimed Kuldeep Singh, a local resident. The quake lasted for about 20 seconds.
