Petroleum ministry mulls scheme to open bank accounts for targeted recipients.

Delhi may become the first state to move to direct cash pay-outs of subsidies on kerosene sold through the public distribution system (PDS).

The impact of the recommendations of the expert group on pricing of petrol, diesel, kerosene and LPG on the poor and on the price level should be no more than that of present policy and most likely smaller over time. The group has recommended freeing petrol and diesel prices and some increases in prices of kerosene and LPG.

NEW DELHI: The Union government has put in motion the process of effecting a possible fuel price hike, with the Cabinet scheduled to discuss the issue on Thursday.

Kirit Parikh The Kirit Parikh committee has recommended market-determined pricing for petrol and diesel. It has also recommended linking the price of domestic LPG and kerosene distributed through the Public Distribution System (PDS) to the increase in per capita GDP for urban population and agriculture GDP, respectively.
