Rs 2500 crore has been spent on increasing power supply and strengthening network under ADB Project in the state during the last five years. Under the project, 220 KV and 132 KV sub stations and lines have been constructed after strengthening transmission network. As a result of this, power generation capacity has increased by 3 thousand 162 megawatts.

Minister of State for Energy (Independent Charge) Rajendra Shukla inspected the construction site of 1200 MW Singaji Thermal Power Project in Khandwa district. He expressed pleasure over the speed of construction work going on. On this occasion Shukla said that by the year 2012 the power plant will start production.

The three major projects contributing major share to the State Power Scenario are Indira Sagar, Omkareshwar and Interstate Sardar Sarovar Project. Since commissioning, these three hydro power projects in Narmada Valley have yielded 23561.5 mu of power till February, 2010 resulted amounts Rs 4855 cr.

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Thursday said that he had requested Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to give environmental clearance for the proposed power projects of Madhya Pradesh.

The Madhya Pradesh Power Generation Company Ltd (MPPGCL) and the public sector navratna Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) today announced a joint-venture to set up 2x800 MW supercritical thermal power plant at Khandwa district.

Madhya Pradesh Power Generating Company and BHEL on Tuesday signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for establishing a Super Critical thermal power plant of 1600 MW in Khandwa district. This plant will help the State overcome power crisis.
