The State Government has asked the district administration to identify 70 acre of levelled, private land for establishing mini airport in Kodagu district.

The order comes in wake of rejection of four to five government land shown to Airport Authority of India to establish the proposed airport.

City Municipal Council (CMC) approved the 'Kundamestri' drinking water project during the Council special meet on Tuesday, amidst fierce opposition from opposition members.

Council has decided to send a report in this regard to the State government. The meet held to make final decision on Bethri or Kundamestri project was presided over by CMC President P D Ponnappa.

Madikeri CMC general meeting decided to allow MP and MLAs to take a decision on Kundamestri or Betri drinking water project within a week. The CMC in association with MP and MLAs will decide whether Kundamestri or Betri project should be implemented in the district.

The CMC general body meeting was held under the presidentship of CMC President P D Ponnappa on Wednesday.

The decision on the proposal of Rs 12.96 crore which was submitted to the government to undertake drinking water projects in the district will be taken within 10 to 15 days and all efforts will be made to get additional funds from the government, said ZP President V M Vijaya and Standing Committee on Education and Health President Manumuthappa.

Though the rains had subsided in Kodagu on Thursday morning, it caught up by afternoon.

Water in Triveni Sangama at Bhagamandala is overflowing. Water has clogged on Bhagamandala-Napoklu-Ayyangeri road upto 2 feet. Holiday has been declared to all the primary, high school and PU Colleges on Friday and Saturday.

Kodagu Zilla Panchayat KDP meeting resolved to constitute a committee to probe into the alleged misappropriation in the purchase of banners and information boards which were installed in three taluks under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) here on Wednesday.

The decision was taken at a meeting held under the presidentship of ZP President V M Vijaya.

To provide employment to the BPL families and to improve the economic condition of the poor, a sum of Rs 102.37 lakh will be utilised in Kodagu district under Swarnajayanthi Grama Swarojgar Yojane (SGSY).
