The sight of a leopard devouring a monkey on a tree at Naqualim-Chicalim on Wednesday evening caused panic among residents.
The incident took place at about 5 pm when locals were startled to notice a leopard consuming its prey. They alerted the forest department, Vasco police and fire department of the incident, but the forest department reached the site only three hours later.

TINSUKIA, April 20: Six persons were injured due to leopard attack at no.7 labour line of Jutlibari TE under Naoholia PS yesterday afternoon. The leopard strayed into the human habitation from nearby Borajan Wild Life Sanctuary. As the people gathering increased after the news spread into the garden about the leopard presence, the leopard suddenly attacked and injured six persons.

A gang of four poachers were nabbed on Wednesday night on the Karnataka-Tamil Nadu border due to the good inter-departmental co-operation between the two State forest authorities. The arrested are Ganesh and Guruprasadswamy both from Hasnoor (TN), Charaya, a tribal and Murugan, both from Devanatham in Satyamangalam.

Udhagamandalam: Four persons have been arrested in connection with a wildlife offence. The District Forest Officer, the Nilgiris North, K. Soundarapandian, told presspersons here on Tuesday that the department had recently come to know about efforts being made by a gang to sell a leopard skin.

DINDIGUL: Forest officials seized tiger and leopard skin, valued at Rs.8 lakh, during a raid in the Kannivadi forest range near here on Monday. Three persons have been arrested and cases filed under Section 49 (A) of the Wildlife Preservation Act 1972.

Three black leopards purchased in February by the Lahore Zoological Gardens at more than 250 times the price the supplier had paid to import the animals from France have been returned to him because they have become weak and sick, Dawn has learnt.

LUCKNOW: The end of this year might see a proper rescue centre for monkeys and leopards in the state. The re-drawn plan on the same has been submitted to the Central Zoo Authority by the Lucknow zoo officials.

Darjeeling, March 30: The Padamaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park is set to start conservation breeding of the clouded leopard with the arrival of a pair from Sephoyjhola zoo in Tripura.

Junagadh: A leopard that had fallen into a swimming pool at the farmhouse of Popat Vaghasiya in Visavadar taluka injured a farmer on Saturday morning before escaping into the forest.
