Three injured after being attacked by the big cat; zoo staff to the rescue

Guwahati: A full grown leopard that strayed out of the nearby forest and entered Jyotikuchi, a residential area here, was rescued by Assam State Zoo staff after tranquillising it at the spot.

Ahmedabad: Days after two leopards stalking Gandhinagar were caught, one more leopard has been spotted near Dehgam in Gandhinagar district in the last one month.
Earlier this month, one leopard was caught from Kalol and another near Sant Sarovar dam in Gandhinagar. Both were sent to Sakkarbaug Zoo in Junagadh and later released in the jungle.

CHENNAI: A black leopard was sighted in the Masinagudi range of the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve in January this year.

Two more carcasses of leopards were found near Javagal in Hassan district on Tuesday. In the last three days, three leopards have died near Javagal.

The endangered clouded leopard seems to have got a new lease of life in the Sipaheejala Sanctuary which has witnessed two births annually of the species whose population has declined to just 31 in India.

The sanctuary is the only conservation breeding project for clouded leopards, sanctuary veterinarian Sajal Das told PTI.

Mumbai: The state is all set to get its first leopard safari. Theforest department has decided to set up such safaris at three places in the state -- near Belwandi in Ahmednagar district, at Manikdoh in Pune district and at Sanjay Gandhi National Park, Mumbai.

DEHRA DUN: A 12-year-old girl was killed by a leopard in the Jhajara range of jungles in Vikasnagar town of the district in Uttarakhand, officials said on Thursday. The incident occurred when Shanti Thapa and her neighbour went to fetch firewood from the jungles near Rajawala village, where she was attacked by the leopard from behind.
