With Rs 16,000 Crore Outlay, National Dairy Plan

Rajkot: In order to provide the fast-growing dairy industry in various districts of Saurashtra with more milk-yielding indigenous breed of cattle, Junagadh Agriculture University (JAU) in Junagadh will soon establish a Bull Mother Farm for indigenous Gir cattle and Jaffrabadi buffaloes at Amreli.

Governor K. Sankaranarayanan today laid the foundation stone of a one lakh litre milk processing and packaging plant near Khelgaon in Hotwar, a few yards from the venue of the 34th National Games.

The project, for which the state had earlier signed an MoU with the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), is aimed at gaining self-sufficiency in milk production.

A dairy that produces one lakh litre of milk a day will be like drop in the ocean for Jharkhand that faces a daily shortage of eight lakh litres. But, it is a good beginning to tackle the state
