New Delhi: The government on Wednesday said that meeting the deadline to award 12,000 km highway projects by March 2010 will be delayed by at least three more months. Road, transport and highways minister Kamal Nath said this singling out conflict of interest (crossholding in bid competitors) and other irritants in the concession agreement and bid documents as the reasons behind the slowdown.

In a fresh attempt to cut down delays in implementation of National Highway Projects, the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has decided to appoint Executive Directors (EDs) at Guwahati, besides seven other zones all over the country, Union Ministry of Road Transport and National Highway, Kamal Nath announced here this afternoon.

National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has awarded only 17 projects for 1,574 km since January against the plan of awarding 135 projects (14,384 km) in the current financial.

New Delhi: The Centre has prepared a plan to convert 6,376 km of single-lane national highways (NH) to twolanes involving an investment of over $3 billion (Rs 15,000 crore).
