Question raised in Lok Sabha on Revival/Rejuvenation of Rivers, 10/05/2016. As per the report published by Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) in February 2015, 302 polluted river stretches have been identified on 275 rivers based on Bio-chemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) levels, a key indicator of organic pollution. The State-wise details are at Annexure-I.The State-wise details of rivers covered under NRCP, including river Pamba in Kerala, are at Annexure-II.

This report by the Standing Committee on Science and Technology, Environment and Forest has pulled up the environment ministry for its "poor performance" in controlling pollution.

Question raised in Lok Sabha on Development of Rivers Under NRCP, 10/03/2016. NRCP (excluding Ganga and its tributaries) has covered polluted stretches of 31 rivers in 75 towns spread over 14 States at a sanctioned cost of Rs.4517.82 crore. Execution of sanctioned works under NRCP is carried out by the implementing agencies of the State Governments. The State-wise details and names of rivers covered under National River Conservation Plan (NRCP) in given in annexure 1.

Question raised in Lok Sabha Conservation of Rivers, 22/12/2015. The programmes of NRCP & NGRBA (till 01/08/2014) have covered polluted stretches of 42 rivers in 199 towns spread over 21 States at a sanctioned cost of `11212.33 crore so far, as per details at Annexure-I. Sewage treatment capacity of 5084 million litres per day (mld) has been created so far under these two programmes. The details of funds released to various State Governments for implementation of sanctioned works under NRCP/NGRBA programmes during the last three years and current year, State-wise are at Annexure-II.

In a major setback to the plan to curb Panchganga river pollution, the ministry of environment and forests has rejected the plan submitted for its approval earlier this year.

Order of the National Green Tribunal (Central Zonal Bench, Bhopal) in the matter of Nityanand Mishra Vs State of Madhya Pradesh & Ors. dated 14/07/2015 regarding Mandakini river conservation plan.
