The Punjab government has allotted the biggest thermal power plant being set up in Gidderbaha to National Thermal Power Corporation Limited (NTPC).

The All Indian Power Engineers Federation (AIPEF) has urged the Punjab Government to not hand over the proposed 264 MW Gidderbaha Thermal Plant to the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC).

According to the engineers, NTPC allows utilisation of just 50 per cent of the power produced to the state and the rest 50 percent is distributed to other states.

New Delhi: NTPC is aiming to add capacity at 13% compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) in order to generate 75,000 mw by March 2017 and reduce its carbon footprint by increasing the share of renewable and nuclear power in its energy mix and improving energy efficiency of coal-fired plants.

NTPC Ltd. said Thursday it aims to more than double its power generating capacity to 75 gigawatts by March 2017, as the state-run company seeks to meet surging demand for electricity in the world's second-fastest-growing major economy.

NTPC aims to further increase its installed capacity to 128 GW by 2032, Chairman Arup Roy Choudhury said in a speech at an annual meeting of shareholders.
