New Delhi: The National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) has ordered a high-level inquiry into the death of a tiger at the Kanha Tiger Reserve on Sunday evening, following allegations that it was hit by a vehicle carrying R P Singh, field director of the reserve.

BHUBANESWAR: As the security forces moved into Similipal Tiger Reserve (STR) to regain the ground lost to Left Wing Extremists (LWEs) after three successive attacks, the State Government on Saturday decided to approach National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) for raising of the protection force meant exclusively for the large cats habitat.

New Delhi: We may finally get to know whether Panna tiger reserve has any of its own tigers left at all. The National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) is sending a high-level multi-agency team on a fact-finding mission to Panna to determine if there are any tigers left in the reserve, and if so, how many.

The State forest department is planning a separate inquiry into the mysterious disappearance of tigers from Panna National Park. The union Government has already ordered a probe into the much-hyped issue, which has hogged the limelight for the last few months or so.

BHUBANESWAR: The debate over tiger population in Similipal will go on for sure. The latest census carried out in Similipal Tiger Reserve (STR) has put their number at 71. Last year the Wildlife Institute of India (WII) had created a flutter by projecting the population in the reserve at 20 (in the range of 17 to 23).
