Prime Minister released the latest tiger numbers at a mega event organised in Mysuru to mark the completion of 50 years of ‘Project Tiger’. According to the data, the tiger population in the country increased from 2,967 in 2018 to 3,167 in 2022.
In India, the Project Tiger coverage has increased to 50 tiger reserves, spread over 18 states, cover 72749.02 sq.km which amounts to around 2.21% of country's geographical area.
Marked as an occasion to raise public awareness and support for tiger conservation, Global Tiger Day — also known as the International Tiger Day — will be celebrated on Sunday.
Ahmedabad: T Subbarami Reddy, chairman of the 15-member Parliamentary Committee on Subordinate Legislation has said that the Centre should now directly take up conservation of lions in Gujarat.
