NEW DELHI: Petroleum Secretary R. S. Pandey on Thursday ruled out raising the price of gas produced from the fields operated by the state-run firms like Oil and Natural Gas Corporation and Oil India.

After unveiling its plans to harness wind energy, ONGC, the country's leading crude and gas producer, now plans to foray into solar and geothermal energy.

The company is in talks with four companies, including a US-based firm, for setting up a photovoltaic (PV) cells unit.

The oil and gas major is also exploring geothermal energy for which it is in talks with Iceland government. All these projects will be carried out under its ONGC Energy Centre housed at Rajiv Gandhi Urja Bhavan, New Delhi.

Cairn India, a subsidiary of the UK-based Cairn Energy, may produce up to 71 per cent more oil from the Rajasthan field, according to a top company executive.

The Rajasthan field is the largest oil find in the country after Oil and Natural Gas Corporation's (ONGC) Bombay High discovery in 1974. ONGC holds 30 per cent in the block.

Sinopec has made an approach to Imperial Energy, the London-listed oil and gas explorer, which could derail takeover talks between the UK group and India's ONGC.

Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), the country's largest oil and gas producer, plans to enter uranium mining in alliance with public-sector Uranium Corporation of India, aiming to tap the business opportunity from nuclear fuel shortage in Asia's third largest economy.

ONGC is aligning with Uranium Corporation as the latter is the only entity allowed to undertake uranium mining in India, and has the power to allot mining leases to others like ONGC, said two analysts tracking the nuclear industry.
