PUNE: The Union government has unveiled new policy guidelines for major ports, aimed at helping them leverage their land resources for commercial advantage.

It has asked port to provide details of expansion plan as part of its land allotment process

The Odisha government has initiated the process to lease out additional land to Dhamra Port Company Ltd (DPCL) for expansion of port operation in Bhadrak district after it was granted environmental clearance recently.

KPT is in the process of drafting a proposal for renewal of leases, to soon be sent to the shipping ministry

On the heels of the Union Cabinet giving its nod to convert 1,300 acres from leasehold to freehold at Gandhidham near the Kandla Port in Gujarat, the Centre has asked the Kolkata Port Trust (KPT), too, to devise a strategy for the 2,500 acres in the port’s township area, which are under lease.

It will help them take up development projects

The Shipping Ministry on Thursday unveiled the much-awaited land policy guidelines for 12 major ports in the country that will help them to undertake various development projects on a tender-cum-auction basis.

Dhamra Port has received environmental clearance from the government for its next phase of expansion worth R7,000 crore, which would be invested over the next five years.

The state government has urged developers of non-major ports to submit the proposals for forest clearances with the required documents like gram sabha resolutions, DGPS (differential global positioning system) survey and FRA (Forest Right Act) certificate by January 31.
