The much-maligned Sariska Tiger Reserve in Alwar district of Rajasthan is going to get back its flagship species soon. Four years after the disappearance of its famous tigers, the reserve is getting ready now for re-introduction of the animal. Much deliberations and some ground level action, including shifting of at least one of the forest villages inside the reserve and improvement in the habitat, have gone into the preparations for the pioneering act, which would have few parallels in the world's conservation history.

After successful completion of work to reduce power transmission and distribution losses to 20 per cent in the rural areas, the Rajasthan Government's Energy Department on Tuesday set a new target for bringing down the losses to 10 per cent or below at all divisional headquarters across the State. State Energy Secretary and Chairman and Managing Director of Rajasthan Vidyut Prasaran Nigam, Shrimat Pandey, laid down the ambitious target as part of the ongoing feeder renovation programme at a video-conference with the district officials.

The Rajasthan Government proposes to release about 5 lakh new domestic electricity connections in the rural areas this year in accordance with an announcement made by Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje in her Budget speech. The three public sector power discoms in the State have issued guidelines in this regard.

A satellite uplink station established by the Rajasthan Government in the shape of an integrated hub at Indira Gandhi Panchayati Raj Sansthan here has started providing telemedicine, Edusat and Gramsat services for people in remote rural areas by harnessing the potential of information technology. An official release stated here on Sunday that the satellite-based communication network had been installed in collaboration with the Central Government's Department of Space. The State Government's Science and Technology Department is functioning as its nodal agency.

Power shortage in neighbouring States has turned out to be a boon for the Bhiwadi industrial area in Alwar district of Rajasthan, with the entrepreneurs making a beeline to establish their new units at one of the popular destinations for industrialists. The industrial area, falling in the National Capital Region, has been exempted from load-shedding by Jaipur Vidyut Vitaran Nigam in view of its proximity to Delhi. This has especially attracted industrialists looking for prolonged manufacturing hours.

Even the flagship programmes of the United Progressive Alliance government such as the Horticulture Mission, the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan and the National Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGA) were ridden with corruption and mismanagement in BJP-ruled States, the party said.
