On Feb 7, 2018, the National Green Tribunal issued notices to Union environment ministry and the governments of the states of Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan and Delhi over illegal operation of brick kilns in these four states. State pollution control board of each of the four states have been directed to inspect the brickfields and examine if they are complying with the environmental norms.

Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Shailesh Singh V/s. Hotel Jaypee Vasant, New Delhi & Others dated 22/12/2017 regarding extraction of grounwater by hotels in Delhi. It is stated on behalf of the hotels that all the hotels hold permissions for extraction of ground water granted by the concerned competent authorities as per the extant guidelines and reports of the joint inspections are also on record. NGT directs for issuance of revised guidelines.

Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Shailesh Singh Vs. Beltek Canadian Water Ltd. dated 28/04/2017 regarding groundwater extraction by Beltek Canadian Water Ltd. a Noida based water bottling unit. NGT finds the inspection report of the unit incomplete as it does not fulfill the very purpose of the inspection which was to get direct material information on the extraction of ground water and quantity of water extracted.

Judgement of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Shailesh Singh Vs State of Uttar Pradesh & Others dated 27/04/2017 regarding distilleries causing pollution to water bodies by extracting groundwater and simultaneously discharging large quantity of effluent/waste water without treatment into river Ganga through river Rapti and Ghaghra, Uttar Pradesh.

Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Shailesh Singh V/s. Hotel Holiday Regency, Moradabad & Ors. dated 23/12/2016 regarding groundwater extraction by hotels in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh. Respondents submitted before National Green Tribunal that they will be presenting a chart giving data of water consumed per day in relation to the standard utilities in respective Hotels.

Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Shailesh Singh V/s. Hotel Jaypee Vasant, New Delhi & Others dated 03/11/2016 regarding hotels using illegally ground water and consuming it without the permission of Central Ground Water Authority thereby impacting the environment by its activities and there are other issues also raised.

Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Shailesh Singh Vs. Bhushan Steel & Strips Limited & Others dated 30/08/2016 regarding shutting down of Bhushan Steel & Strips Limited, Uttar Pradesh. The industry compiled with the directions contained in the Order dated 10/12/2015 and applied to the Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board for inspection and analysis of its trade effluents in terms of order of the Tribunal joint inspection conducted by Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board, Central Pollution Control Board and I.I.T., Delhi.

Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Shailesh Singh V/s. Hotel Jaypee Vasant, New Delhi & Ors. dated 30/08/2016 regarding Hotel Jaypee Hotel illegally extracting groundwater and thus causing environmental degradation. The Application was filed by Delhi resident Shailesh Singh stating that Hotel Jaypee is situated in notified ‘over exploited’ area of Delhi wherein ground water can only be drawn for drinking purposes.

Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Shailesh Singh V/s. Hotel Holiday Regency, Moradabad & Ors. dated 26/04/2016 regarding groundwater extraction by hotels in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh. Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board shall submit a report based on the analysis of the STP discharge and also the green area available in the premises of the respective hotels where the STP water could be used and also report for what purpose the sewage water can be used.

Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Shailesh Singh Vs. M/S Aadi Best Consortium Pvt. Ltd. dated 19/04/2016 regarding extraction of ground water by Adi Best Consortium Pvt. Ltd., Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh.

Counsel appearing on behalf of Shailesh Singh admits that the water from the bore well was being extracted since the commencement of project for the purposes of human consumption that is for the labourers at the site and no permission from CGWA was obtained for extraction of this ground water.
