LUCKNOW: Around 7,400 electricity consumers in Lucknow got registered under the Self Load Declaration Scheme, which was initiated by UP Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL). Total load which was enhanced in the process stood at 13,067 Kw.

LUCKNOW: As if the prevailing power crisis following tripping of thermal power units in the state was not enough, employees of UP Power Corporation (UPPCL) threatened of going on a two-day strike beginning Tuesday in protest against proposed privatisation of power distribution in Kanpur.

LUCKNOW: This summer, UP is on the precipice. With five major thermal power stations having tripped in the last five days, the state grid has lost 1,000mw of the total input of 2,500mw per day. Besides, one plant is in a shut-down mode for the last one-and-a-half years for renovation work.

Union Minister of State for Coal, Shree Prakash Jaiswal fired another salvo at the UP government for dragging its feet on sanctioning land for the proposed power projects in Kanpur Dehat. He also criticised the governments of some coal producing states for failing to control law and order, which has hit production adversely.

LUCKNOW: In a bid to propel expansion in power sector, the Uttar Pradesh government has accorded status of industry to all new power projects coming up in the state. A proposal to this effect was cleared by the State Energy Task Force (ETF) at its meeting presided over by chief secretary Atul Kumar Gupta here on Wednesday.

LUCKNOW: Thanks to the tardy pace and poor execution of work, two ambitious power projects, which could have diffused the critical power crisis in Uttar Pradesh to a considerable extent this summers, may not come up on time after all.
