With power supply going haywire followed by angered protests by denizens across the state, UP power corporation ltd. (UPPCL) on Sunday directed its all efforts on purchasing more power to meet the escalating demand.

LUCKNOW: Power-starved Uttar Pradesh was staring at a serious crisis after the fourth unit of 500 mw capacity in Anpara-B tripped late on Friday night. The unit, in fact, had to be shut down following sudden heavy leakage from an economiser in the boiler. The snag was expected to be rectified only by Sunday evening.

LUCKNOW: Get ready to shell out 50 paise more for every unit of electricity you consume. The UP Electricity Regulatory Commission (UPERC) on Thursday announced the hike in power tariff for various categories of consumers. The new tariff would come into force seven days after the state government declares it through a public notice.

LUCKNOW: Petrol and diesel will get dearer for people in Lucknow, Kanpur and Agra from April 1, 2010. While petrol will cost 50 to 53 paise more per litre, diesel will be costlier by 27 to 30 paise more.

After much delay, Torrent Power Limited is set to take over power distribution and bill collection in Agra from state-owned Pashchimanchal Power Corporation on April 1.

The UPA gov ernment, on Monday, asked the Mayawati governmen in Uttar Pradesh to extend i cooperation in improving the power situation in the state.

Congress MLA from Banda and UP Congress Media Cell chief, Vivek Singh on Tuesday, accused chief minister Mayawati of creating hurdles in the development of Bundelkhand. He alleged that the proposed 4000 megawatt power plant, which was sanctioned by the Prime Minister was not coming up in the state just because of the rigidity of Mayawati.

The 88 industrial clusters identified by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) will be re-verified for the amount of pollution they generate, on the basis of which they will be re-rated.
