Order of the Supreme Court regarding steps to control pollution at Taloja, Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra, 08/11/2019
Order of the Supreme Court in the matter of The Taloja Manufacturers Association Vs The Ministry of Environment and Forest and Climate Change & Others dated 08/11/2019 regarding industrial pollution at Taloja.
Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) informed the SC that a sum of Rs. 18 crores to be contibuted by 324 out of 900 units who operate in Taloja, Navi Mumbai has not been made. The amount was for upgrading the common effluent treatment plant. In response to it, the apex court directed MIDC to issue notice to the 324 defaulting units within a period of one week. The units would then be given a period of three weeks within which they have to pay the amount mentioned in the notices. In the event of default, the MIDC has the liberty to proceed against them in accordance with law and move Maharashtra Pollution Control Board to discontinue water supply for the defaulting units.
