With the new Land Act coming in force from Wednesday, Union rural development minister Jairam Ramesh sought to alley apprehensions of the industry in purchase of land. The minister said that there is no bar whatsoever on purchase of private land.

The new law on land has replaced the earlier act, which was enacted in 1894 but had come into force in 1895. Mr Ramesh sought to alley the apprehensions of the industry that purchasing land for industrial activities would now become cumbersome.
