The Sardar Sarovar Dam (SSP) on River Narmada in Gujarat is set to rise from its present height of 122.92 metres to 138.68 metres, following permission from the Environment Sub Group (ESG) of the Narmada Control Authority. The clearance has come for the erection of 17-metre-high gates on the dam. This follows an April 1 meeting of the ESG in New Delhi.
