Air pollution from transportation sources in Bangalore

CiSTUP is ready with a preliminary draft of Call to Action Report on Air Pollution from Transportation Sources in Bangalore. One of the major source of air pollution is from transport sources, due to the exhaust gas from the tail pipe, mainly the result of incomplete combustion of fuels. Key air pollutants, also referred to as Common Air Pollutants (CAP) are emitted due to the vehicular traffic.  The draft report suggests control measures like expanding metro rail system and connecting with the suburban rail system. It also strongly recommends introduction of CNG as bus fuel rather than diesel.  More importantly, shifting 60% of the city movements to public transport can get the air pollution level back within the tolerable limits.
