Best practices and case studies for industrial energy efficiency improvement: an introduction for policy makers
The Copenhagen Centre on Energy Efficiency (C2E2) has released a publication titled 'Best Practices and Case Studies for Industrial Energy Efficiency Improvement: An Introduction for Policy Makers.' The report was published in the context of the Sustainable Energy for All (SE4All) initiative, which includes a goal of doubling the global rate of energy efficiency improvement by 2030. C2E2, as the SE4All Energy Efficiency Hub, hopes the publication will "stimulate joint actions from business, governments, and civil societies" toward this goal. Emphasizing that industrial energy efficiency can cut costs, reduce environmental pollution and improve productivity, the report seeks to help policymakers address the barriers preventing the adoption of energy efficiency measures and the realization of the associated benefits. Among the cited barriers are a lack of data, energy subsidies, certain utility incentives, and investment-related barriers. The report provides an overview of policy options, going into detail on establishing: information-led and capacity building policies; institutional, regulatory and legal policies; fiscal and financial policies; and policies that drive technological innovation. The text is dotted with successful examples from countries around the world, with a view to sharing international experiences that can inform countries' own efforts at accelerating energy efficiency improvements.
