Draft guidelines for preparation of legislation for framing drinking water regulations
The primary aim of framing legislation on regulation of drinking water is the protection of public health. The potability of drinking water is guided by national standard that, if properly implemented, will ensure the safety of drinking water supplies through the elimination or reduction to a minimum concentration, of constituents of water that are known to be hazardous to health. The drinking water quality standards, therefore, defines such limits in the context of national, environmental, social, economic and cultural conditions.
