Final report of the Central Empowered Committee regarding mining leases for iron and manganese in the state of Odisha

CEC submits final report on Odisha mining scam to Supreme Court. CEC says, 2130 lakh MT minerals excavated without obtaining environmental clearance. Despite blaming the Odisha government for lapses for the large scale mining irregularities between 2000-01 and 2010-11 in the state, but the Supreme Court appointed Central Empowered Committee (CEC), which submitted its final report in the apex court, however did not recommend a CBI probe. The CEC report also criticised the Odisha government over the production of iron ore and manganese without environment clearance or beyond the period of environment clearance in the mining leases in the state. During the years 2000-01 to 2010-11, a total quantity of 2,130.988 lakh MT of iron and 24.129 lakh MT of manganese were produced without environmental clearance or beyond environmental clearance in the State. During the period from 2000-01 to 2010-11, each of the 14 lessees produced more than 50 lakh MT of iron and manganese without or in excess of environmental clearances.
