Privatised industrial water supply in Dewas: a case study of impacts and conflicts

Dewas town and industrial area has been witnessing water crisis for more than two decades and is heavily dependent on ground water resources. Madhya Pradesh State Industrial Development Corporation (MPSIDC) with active support from Dewas Industrial Association (DIA) planned a privatised industrial water supply project for industries in Dewas through public private partnership (PPP) mode, keeping source of water as Narmada 128 kms away to improve the water scarcity situation faced by industries, in 2002. The study looks at the status, impacts and conflicts around the privatised industrial water supply project in Dewas.
