Report of the expert committee on national food security bill
This is a report of the expert committee on national food security bill chaired by Dr C Rangarajan. It has recommended sharply diluted implementation of the food security bill proposed by the National Advisory Council (NAC), headed by UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi.
An expert committee constituted by the government has recommended sharply diluted implementation of the food security bill proposed by the National Advisory Council (NAC), headed by UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi , paving way for the second serious disagreement in a month between arms of the government and its high-profile policy advisory body. An expert committee headed by C Rangarajan , chairman of the Prime Minister’s Economic Advisory Council, has concluded that the provisions envisaged by the NAC may have to be ‘calibrated’ due to non-availability of food grain, the potential distortion of open market food prices and the “large subsidy implications”.
