The Australian Government is bringing forward the start of emissions trading to 1 July 2014. This change will establish binding annual limits (pollution caps) on Australian industry's greenhouse gas emissions from 1 July 2014 onward. This will ensure that Australia meets its international emissions reduction targets under the second commitment period of the Kyoto Protocol (2013 to 2020) and under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.
