Standing forests are the most important territorial reservoirs to CO2. Reforestry and afforestry CDM projects are the means to sequester carbon. Himachal Pradesh and Haryana are the examples.

In India, both Himachal Pradesh and Haryana are in nascent stage of a reforestation and afforestation project under CDM. The projects entrust people with the task of growing and protecting
plantations and their success depends on how long the state governments are able to hold people
