A lot of industrialization is taking place in and around the city of Tiruchirappalli. The number of apartment goes on increasing in Tiruchirapplai due to rapid increase in population and unavailability of sites to construct houses. The crowd in the apartment and their activity lead to enhanced sound level. Exposure to high level of noise may cause severe stress on the auditory and nervous system.

The area chosen for study is A. Mettur. The aim of the present investigation is to conduct a door to door survey about the location of the houses, socio-economic status of the people and the problems encountered using the water was done. Bore well, well, canal, lake and river water samples were collected from different places and physico-chemical and biological parameters were analysed.

Ground and well water samples were collected from Manchankoppu, Tiruchirappalli district. Physical parameters, such as temperature, odour, taste, turbidity, pH and conductivity and chemical parameters and compared with ISI, WHO and USPHS. Sulphate, silicate, phosphate, nitrite and nitrate contents were also analysed.
