Total suspended particulate matter (TSPM) and respiratory particulate matter (PM10) are the main air pollutants in ambient air of opencast coal projects (OCPs). The present paper focuses on the ambeint air quality analysis for the 5 opencast coal projects scattered around Wardha Valley, namely Durgapur, Padampur, Gughus, Sasti, Hindustan Lalpet Mines of Western Coalfields Limited (WCL).

This paper examines different sources of dust generation and quantifies dust emission rates from different point, area and line sources considering background dust concentration at one of the Opencast Coal Project (OCP) of Western Coalfields Limited.
